fall-esque.

automn wishlist

automn wishlist by catemarg featuring a flower headband

since the seasons are changing, yet in my neck of the woods the temperature does not, I need clothes that look fall-ish but feel summer-y. and no,  I will never grow out of putting a 'y' or 'ish' at the end of words. I don't care. I love it.

for some odd reason I have been really in to tropical pieces and neon colors lately. which, if you know me, by the fact that I just said that I like neon colors you probably think that this is some impostor or something. OH NO, I am still here, friends. I am still here. anyways, I think all of these pieces translate well from summer to autumn but adding a warm & vintage-esque feel to my normal wardrobe. whoa, maybe I could just add 'esque' at the end of words now to make me sound more mature-esque and proper-esque. yep, that is going to stick.

HEY YOU!

(ha! flashback to a year ago. oh how times have changed.)

HEY YOU!

yes, you.

i am starting a new series on the blog soon that focuses on your style (yes, yours). how great if that? YOU get to read about YOU. this series is open to any of my readers (you do not have to be a blogger, just someone who loves your style and wants to show it off). all you have to do is email me (catemarg@gmail.com) or comment your email on this post, say that you are interested,  and we can start from there. simple as that! then, I will have you answer a few fun questions and send me a few pictures of you sporting your favorite outfit. it will be quick, easy, painless, and pretty fun.

I am starting this series because on this blog I mainly focus on just my style, and, well, I want to see yours. also, I know my readers would love to not see a picture of me every time they click my blog (nah, you always love to see my beautiful face). I want to show you guys a wide range of styles since my personal one may not inspire you. and you know what, that is perfectly okay. I am so glad that there are not millions of cate's in this world. because then everyone would wear black and white and watch Netflix all day. that would not be good.

but, this series cannot happen if you do not email me. so please (PLEASE!) email me. I am begging to hear about you and your style. (:

in my room: desk

this is the third part of my 'in my room' series, which would be my desk! you can see my bed here and my bookcase + map wall here.

my desk is probably my favorite and therefore most-used part of my room. it is where I do my school work, paint, write, blog, and think. this little white desk is my "happy spot" if you will-- as I look out my window, I am inspired most.

I love the light that floods in during the day. natural is better than an old light bulb, huh?

my little set up of pens, pencils, and anything else a girl could need.

a jar I keep on my desk and put extra change in for someone else. who that may be, I do not know yet. (:

how cute is this owl night light? just press it and it lights up! ha, the things that make me happy.

oh, and I spy the (secret) book I made here. check it out.

my sewing machine that I excitably wrote about here and a cool geometric basket from my grandmother.

a super cool art magazine and a notebook. no one can have too many notebooks hanging around, that is for sure!

quite honestly, I have been wanting to paint my desk for a year now. like, I have the paint and everything but I just have not had the time to do so (aka I am lazy). but, I decided to take the photos the way it is now anyway because nothing is ever finished and everything is constantly changing.  my desk, my room, and well, my life. and I am perfectly okay with that. (:

on repeat.

as the summer is winding down (insert major breakdown here), my wardrobe somehow seems to scale down to about 5 pieces that I repeat over and over again. a simple colored tank, a light-weight cardigan, my diy denim shorts (you have never seen these before, right?!) and my white converse complete my well-wore end of summer combination.

my brother (photographer): "cate, you look smart with your glasses on!"
me: "uh, i AM smart."

thanks, bro.

 peace out summer. :(

i hate to see my lazy, adventurous, busy, fun, creative, and amazing summer end. but all good things must come to an end at some point. or do they?

new happy things.

a few new (extra) happy purchases I have made this week...

my new purse. from target. yet, does not look like a $20 purse from target. and THAT is why I love target. ya get me?

my too expensive anthropologie candle I mentioned in my treat yo self day post that smells heavenly. it is currently burning as I type. life is good.

after a much needed eye check up, I had to get a pair of glasses. even though I look 10 times nerd-er than normal, I think that they are adorable. plus, they are kate spade so I couldn't resist.

I love things that make me happy. and these do just that.

a profile.

you know those photos that just describe you? I feel like this photo is one of those. from the raised eye brow to the half-smirk (but a kind one at that) and a simple profile, this image would be one that shouts (or sarcastically jokes, in my case) the word, cate. I feel like we all have photos like this. they tell a story, a personality, a lifetime.
sorry to get so deep on you guys on these last few posts, but sometimes one listens to tswizzle a little too much and it explodes on his or her blog. I do not know who this "one" is, but they sound pretty awesome if you ask me.
xo. cate
(p.s. I was going to post a photo of a cookie to describe myself, but since i did not have milk to go with the photo or an artsy backdrop, it wouldn't of done myself justice. and we wouldn't want that, would we?)

treat yo self day.

my current favorite television show is Parks and Recreation. maybe because of it's wit and sarcasm, maybe because of my love and desire to be certain characters (coughroncough), or maybe because I have nothing else to do rather than sit at my computer and watch hours upon hours of a silly tv show. whichever way, this show is great.

one of the best episodes (season 4, episode 4 "Pawnee Rangers") partially focuses on a day called "treat yo self" day. basically this day evolves treating yourself (ahem, YO SELF) to whatever you want, whether that be a spa, a shopping spree or any other form of pleasure. Tom and Donna buy things that may be too expensive or useless, but they buy them because, well, it's treat yo self day. and its the best day of the yearrrrr. *insert tom's singing voice here*

so my friends, parker and sara, and I decided to have ourselves a little treat yo self day. I have been racking up on babysitting jobs lately, so it seemed fitting. here is a peak into what we wore for our special day...

I would be lying if I said this was the first (or second.. or third) time I have wore this outfit this week. however, this combo consists of my current favorite pieces in my woredrobe. oh, and I did wear some funky ankle boots with it earlier in the day... but... uh... my feet got tired and I downgraded to these old friends.

top: ae
necklace: pacsun
shorts: target
bag: urban outfitters
shoes: ae

parker went with a simple dress but made it more casual with some sneakers (courtesy of the best person ever.... your welcome, parker). I am totally in to pairing knit dresses with converse lately.

dress: jcrew
earrings: local boutique
shoes: converse (mine)
sunglases: rayband wayfayers

sara's style (if you cannot already tell) is super preppy, and it fits her personally perfectly. with classic basics and fun accessories her look is spot on.

top: ralph lauren
skirt: lilly pulitzer
shoes: jack rogers
earrings: kate spade
necklace: jcrew
sunglasses: rayband wayfayers

the thing I love most about my friends pictured above is that we all have our own style and stick to it. we do not try to conform to what is trendy now, or what everyone else it wearing. we are our own people and all of us love to express it through our wardrobe. while my style is more edgy & carefree, parkers is simple & casual, and saras and preppy & classic, we show who we are through our clothes... not to impress others, but to show the world just a small part of our big personality.

and if you were wondering, treat yo self day was a complete success. we hit up every mall in our city and treated ourselves to a few things we would not normally buy. it is so fun to spend a little extra money on things that make you happy (aka my new anthropologie candle that was way too expensive).

(p.s. everyone should watch parks and rec. best show ever. literally.)

the future is exciting.

one of my favorite topics to talk about is the future. and not in an "aliens will take over earth in a million years" kind of of way, but in a sense that I love to see what life has in store for me next. though I am not promised tomorrow, thinking about all the things I will hopefully get to do later in life is quite exciting to me. so with that excitement, and being a girl, of course I dream about what it will be like 5, 10, 15 years from today.

isn't it?!

a cute pink and mint house in my neighborhood that maybe... someday will be my own. my thought process goes like so: "ooo, how cute would this be for a house... or a bakery... or a clothing store... or even a thrift shop... maybe even a..." and so on.

guys, the future is so exciting. i love it.

(p.s. sorry to whoevers house this was... I just like to casually stand outside random colorful homes and take photos. duh.)
